Hej I’m Christopher and I was born on 14 February 1984.
I grew up and lived most of my life in small town on the English and welsh border before moving to rural Spain when I was 23, I have spent most of my early working life working in construction and in a small construction company once owned by my father, I always felt like I needed to do more and dreamt of living a self sufficient off grid life so at 23 I left the UK for good and moved to Spain where my father had purchased an old farmhouse in the mountains of Galicia.
Over the next 7 years I helped him rebuild most of the old buildings and learnt to live in the natural world without electricity or running water.
Washing was done in a plastic bucket and the toilet was a wooden box with sawdust to cover, life was often hard but the feeling of freedom was truly incredible and taught me the best and most rewarding lessons id encountered so far in my life.
In 2015 I met a Danish woman and decided to leave Spain and move to her home country of Denmark and try to build a new life, id planned to just get a 9/5 job and help her make home. Sadly I couldn’t find any employment and couldn’t pick up the language quick enough.
I became unhappy and felt very down, I needed to make a change and longed for a way out of my depression, then I found Aslan one day while going to buy some ducks and thats when Fields of Freedom was born.
Now 4 years later I run the sanctuary with my beautiful partner Katia who I met in the summer of 2018 and instantly fell in love, Today we are the biggest sanctuary in Denmark and continue to grow everyday we hope to expand in the coming years and become self sufficient in both own food and the animals feeds as possible, we want to help as many animals as possible both by rescue and offering advice to owners in need and will continue to educate the public on animal care and compassion.

My name is Katia and I was born June 11th 1993.
The majority of my life I have been living what is considered to be a very normal life, where I’ve grown up not far from Denmarks capital Copenhagen.
However, throughout my life I’ve dealt with multiple mental health issues, which took it’s toll on me already in my teenage years after an traumatizing experience at the age of 16. This meant that I’ve for a number of years dealt with a lot of anxiety, depression and OCD which left me incapable of doing normal everyday things, such as just going grocery shopping, hanging out with friends and at some point even just leaving my house.
But I knew there just had to be more that life could offer me, so after a few years of living this way, I decided that I wanted to fight all these issues, which for me, meant that I wanted to make a life for myself and the only way I knew how to get out of my own way, was to start an education where I had to show up every day, no matter how I felt on the inside or how much I wanted to run away from my anxiety.
This determination to help myself took a long time, but it worked really well for me and today I can proudly say, that I actually have a total of three different educations behind me in different fields such a graphic designer, web developer and latest a business school degree.
I never really knew what these different education would led me to, but as it turns out, it led me to a very special and beautiful place, that I couldn’t even imagine in my wildest dreams in my darkest hours.
I joined Fields of Freedom in the summer of 2018 after meeting a very special guy you all know and as it turns out, all these hardships and educations let me to this particular day: So that I one day could use all of the skills I’ve learned, to help lead and run the love of my life with running his animal sanctuary.
Today I couldn’t imagine a better place for me to work and live. Living and working with over a 100 animals could seem stressful to many, but it has helped my anxiety in so many ways – actually so much, that I’ve been able to turn one of my resources to combat my anxiety into a whole education, where I in the summer of 2019 will become a certified yoga teacher.
The dream of mine with this, is to able to combine the harmony of living with animals with the harmony yoga offers and make not only our own lives better here at the sanctuary, but hopefully also being able to give something back and help the people who supports us so greatly and make the animals lives better as well.
